Activity 1: Introduction

There are many situations that prompt people to communicate through writing.  Each situation calls for writing that is individualized to meet the needs and backgrounds of different audiences.  These writings will also differ, depending on the writer’s purpose in a particular situation.  For instance, writing to inform will produce a different kind of writing than writing to persuade.
