Activity 3: Learning Resources

There is one required Learning Resource (LR). You will enroll in this LR through your AAP.

Reading, Writing and Composition by Pearson provides access to e-texts and access to MyReadingLab, MyWritingLab, and MyCompLab. You will enroll in this resource through your AAP. Once you have enrolled, you will receive an email from Learning Resources with specific instructions on how to access the resource.  The textbooks included are listed below:

  • Faigley, L. (2007). Writing: A guide for college and beyond. New York: Pearson Longman. ISBN 0-321-39626-X.
  • Ruszkiewicz, J., Seward, D. E., & Hairston, M. (2007). SF writer (4th edition). New York: Pearson Longman. ISBN 0-13-233458-5.
  • Smith, B. D. (2007). The reader’s handbook: reading strategies for college and everyday life (3rd edition). New York: Pearson Longman. ISBN-10 0321476840.

Follow these steps to access your e-texts and on-line learning labs:

1. First, you need to enroll in the Course Compass learning resource called “Reading, Writing, and Composition” by Pearson (in your AAP).  Then you will get an email from Learning Resources that contains your Course Compass login ID and password information.  If you cannot find this email, please have your mentor contact the Learning Resources Department--they can retrieve it for you.

2.  When you get to the Course Compass login page (pictured below) enter your login information.

3.       Once you have logged in, you will be taken to the page below. The purple menu on the side will take you to the e-texts (click on e-Books) and the learning labs.  You DO NOT need an access code for the e-texts.

4.     When you click on MyREadingLab and MyWritingLab for the first time you will need access codes.   Enter Course ID Arts00008962R for MyReadingLab OR Enter Course ID Arts00220001W for MyWritingLab. Make sure your select the “Join Instructor’s Course” option and NOT the “self-study” option.  Also, you must type in the codes—do not copy and paste them.   There is additional sign-in help listed on the Course Compass homepage.  You do not need an access code for MyCompLab.

TaskStream: You will also need to enroll in TaskStream, the web site through which you upload your assignments, with the assistance of your mentor.

Note: Please retain all emails and materials you receive regarding your learning resources. The information contained in these materials is very helpful.

Find the LCTA community pages and bookmark those pages.  Find the time for the “Getting Started” chat or read the chat log in the first weeks of the course.  The community is at http://community.wgu.edu/clearspacex/community/liberal_arts_research__writing__and_presentation_learning_community
