Activity 5: Optional Learning Resource

If you feel you need additional help in preparing and delivering an oral presentation, ask your mentor to give you access to Thinkwell Public Speaking, a multimedia resource that includes video tutorials with online interactive exercises designed to help you learn public speaking.  Relevant topics include: speaker anxiety, audience analysis, preparing the speech, presenting the speech, speaking to inform, and speaking to persuade.

Uploading the Video

Once you know the size of your file, it’s time to upload the video and submit it toTaskStream. The way you submit your file will be based on the file size:

If your file size is under 50MB, you may attach the file in TaskStream (as you would a document). Just upload the file and hit the “submit” button.

If your file size is larger than 50 MB and does not exceed 10 minutes in length-  you will need to upload the file to an external video hosting web site (www.snapfish.com, www.teachertube.com,  or www.youtube.com are all good options.)

Snapfish Instructions- click Start here, set up an account, go to your home page, on the right you will see an orange box- Click on upload photos, you will then need to name your album and follow the instructions.  (You can choose to have a free home videos account for 1 month.)  Your video must not exceed 10 minutes in length and must be in MPG format.

·         To submit a Snapfish video: Add your username and password to the submission, and clearly give directions to the grader in TaskStream about how to find your video. (You can change your username and password in the future after the grading is done).

Youtube Instructions: Set up an account and then click on upload.  You can then browse and choose your correct video to upload.  Once uploaded, you will name your video.  If you do not want others to view your presentation, simply give it a nonsense name like “lkjadf;lfj” and it will not appear in search results.  Your video must not exceed 10 minutes in length.

·         To submit a Youtube video- Once you file is uploaded, copy the “share video” link and paste it into your TaskStream submission.

Teachertube Instructions: Sign up for a free account.  Once you have uploaded your video you will need to give it a title, categorize it and fill in other information.

·         To submit a Teachertube video- Copy the URL and paste it into your TaskStream submission.  If you encounter any issues, please use the FAQ link on www.teachertube.com.

If your file is over 300MB, please consider recording it at a lower resolution, if possible. If this is not possible, you may upload your file using “streaming video.” Visit this site http://www.livevideo.com/media/tag/voeh.aspx

• When you get to the site, you will need to join. Click on the "Sign Up" link at the very top of the page. You will be asked to enter e-mail info, etc.

• Once you have an account, click on the button that says MyVideos. It will say you do not have any videos uploaded, but follow the link to start uploading videos.

• You will now be on a page that gives you three video upload options. Pick the first option and watch the video tutorial.

• Upload your video, give it a distinct file name, and then copy the link into your task for TaskStream.

If none of the above options work for you, please e-mail us at languageandcommunication@wgu.edu or visit the LCTA learning space for additional information.
