Activity 5: Readings and Resources

Please read the chapters and sections mentioned below to prepare for the assessment. E-text Readings:

 In SF Writer:

    • In Chapter 28, there is a section on grammar and punctuation and mechanics. Use these sections to proofread your paper. Chapter 7 gives you more revising and proofreading helps. Be aware of all of the helpful tips here for evaluating your paper before submitting it to the graders.
    • If you have trouble with sentence construction, review Chapter 9 in SF Writer as well.
    • Finally, use Chapter 28 to revise your APA reference list if there were significant errors in your annotated bibliography. Remember that your final paper only contains a reference list and NOT an annotated bibliography.

In Writing: A Guide for College and Beyond

    • Chapter 22 has a sample APA paper which you should not miss when putting your whole document together in APA style.
    • The chapters at the end of the book from 29 through 32 review all the grammar and writing conventions you need to succeed.

    Course Compass Resources

    • In Research Navigator, the Start Writing tab has a “Grammar Guide.” Under the End Notes & Bibliography tab, visit “Using APA Style,” and “Autocite.”
    • In MyCompLab the Writing Section contains a link to Model Documents. You can mouse over the APA Paper 1 for ideas on research paper organization.

Websites:

When you still need more help with APA style and ideas about research papers, one of the best sites is http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01 which comes from the Writing Lab at Purdue University.

http://www.wisc.edu/writing/Handbook/PlanResearchPaper.html at the University of Wisconsin/Madison has a section on this page for the final draft. Don’t miss their hints.
