Activity 5:  Taskstream
Now that you have completed Module 4, you are ready to do Tasks 1, 2, and 3 of the MQTA.  Go to www.Taskstream.com to complete these tasks.

Task 1 – Solve linear equations in one unknown both algebraically and graphically.
1.  Read the Given and instructions, and break the Given into manageable pieces.  What does each sentence tell you?  Write down each piece of information separately.  It might even be helpful to draw a picture.
2.   In the word problem, what are the two things that are changing/varying? You need to interpret this from the Given word problem. These two items that can change you will need to replace with two different variables.
3.   Please Note: this task requires students to graph two linear equations and each equation does have two variables.

Task 2 – Solve quadratic equations in one unknown both algebraically and graphically.

1.  Read the instructions. Solve each quadratic equations separately, making notes on the methods you used.

Task 3 – Explain why an answer to an algebraic or numerical calculation is unreasonable.

1.   Read the instructions and determine what each task is telling you.

2. This is basically two different situations, so complete each one separately.
On A, you will want to consider what does a percentage of something mean and construct an equation that represents the situation.
On B, you will want to draw a picture and construct an equation from the picture.

If you encountered difficulty with any of the concepts or practice problems, you should go to the community.  There you will be able to contact the Quantitative Literacy Math (QL Math) Academic Mentor through the "Contact a Mentor" button, or e-mail.
