Activity 4: Guiding Questions and Competence Builders

Answer the following questions using information gained through the readings, Thinkwell, CourseCompass, and websites.  Enter answers and thoughts on the topics in your notebook.

  1. Explain the role of scientific inquiry in obtaining knowledge.
  2. Explain the difference between dependent and independent variables.
  3. Why is it important to include controlled parameters when solving a scientific problem?

Competence Builders

  • Go to the Natural Science Learning Community and click on the blog post “Science Projects”.  Post a message about your science topic; explain your question, identify your variables, explain how you collected your data, or explain what happened in your experiment. 
  • Read through the messages in the “Science Projects” blog and respond to one message.
  • If you would like some feedback on your topic for the science project, click on the blog post "Choosing a Science Project Topic" and post your idea. 
  • Read through the other project ideas and offer any suggestions you may have.
