In this module, you will learn about spatial reasoning concepts and principles.  The geometric concepts you learn will help you to make specific connections and learn to think deductively.  This material will assist you in developing your understanding of Geometry at a higher level, and thus you will become a proficient teacher at the elementary grade level.

Activity 1: Key Terms & Definitions

  • Line segment, angle, point
  • square, rectangle, cube, circle, sphere, rhombus, trapezoid
  • area, perimeter, circumference, volume, and surface area
  • right, acute, and obtuse angles
  • parallel, perpendicular, alternate interior angles, transversal
  • congruence and similarity
  • Pythagorean Theorem and its converse
  • complementary, supplementary, vertical, and exterior angles
  • symmetry, rotations, reflections, translations
  • Sum of the interior angles of a triangle
  • Substitution property of equality
  • Subtraction and Addition property of equality

In your notebook for IS Math, continue your glossary section for quick reference.
