Activity 4:  Taskstream

Now that you have completed modules 1-8, you are ready to attempt Performance Tasks 5 & 6 in Taskstream (also known as 102.4.6-01 and task 102.4.6-06 & 07).  Go to www.taskstream.com to get started on Tasks 5 & 6.

Additional Clarification:

Task 5:

  • You just need to type the information exactly as it appears into your own spreadsheet.

  • However, you should delete the blank line on row 2--that blank line seems to mess up the graph.  

  • In column 1, you should type "0 heads", "1 head", etc instead of simply "0, 1".  If you do this, then Excel will read the first column as labels, instead of data, so that should really help.

  • Here is a link for help with graphing using Excel.  You can pick helpful tutorials to create different types of graphs:  http://www.ncsu.edu/labwrite/res/res-homepage.htm

Task 5 Checklist

  • Did you include a spreadsheet that is complete and correct?
  • Did you include two precisely constructed graphs?
  • Did you explain your choice for the types of graphs constructed?
  • Did you write a conclusion about the data based on the two graphs?

Task 6:

  • When finding probabilities of multistage events you will need to consider other factors.  You will need to determine if the probability is independent or dependent and use the multiplication principle.  Here is a link to help you with Parts A & B:

  • For Part C, in order to figure how many ways you can pick cards you will need to disregard any formulas that you want to use.  This task should make sense.
  • Definitely you need a deck of cards.  Separate all the face cards and put them in a pile.  The question for #1: How many ways are there of selecting one of each face card from the file?  How many choices do you have for your first pick?  Would a Jack, Queen or King work?  Please keep in mind the suits for each card (i.e. hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades for each).
  • Pick one card. Now if you picked a Queen for your second card what are you allowed to pick? Remember you are only allowed one of each face card. Pick out all the cards that you are not allowed to choose. How many cards are left for your second pick?

  • Did you include 4 appropriate entries for Part A?
  • Did you include 4 appropriate entries for Part B?
  • Did you include 9 appropriate entries for Part C including explanations?
