In this module you will be oriented to the requirements for the IS Mathematics subdomain.
Activity 1: Domain of Study
Each domain of study is broken down into subdomains and competencies. Within the IS Mathematics there is one (1) subdomain and nine (9) competencies.
Subdomain 102.4 — IS Mathematics
Competency 102.4.1: Number Sense and Numeration - The graduate understands whole numbers, integers, and fractions and performs the four basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Competency 102.4.2: Real Number System - The graduate understands the real number system and uses this knowledge to perform the four basic operations and to distinguish between rational and irrational numbers.
Competency 102.4.3: Algebraic Concepts - The graduate understands the concepts of, and relationships among, variables, expressions, equations, graphs, inequalities, and systems in order to analyze, model, and solve problems and analyze functions.
Competency 102.4.4: Geometry - The graduate demonstrates geometry and spatial reasoning concepts and principles and demonstrates how they are connected across grade levels.
Competency 102.4.5: Measurement - The graduate locates, develops, & solves real-world problems using measurement.
Competency 102.4.6: Statistics & Probability - The graduate describes the theory of probability and its relationship to sampling, statistical inference, and how to make and evaluate predictions.
Competency 102.4.7: Mathematical Reasoning - The graduate constructs formal, logical arguments and proofs, and draws conclusions.
Competency 102.4.8: Mathematical Problem Solving - The graduate applies and adapts a variety of appropriate strategies to solve mathematical problems.
Competency 102.4.9: Calculator Use - The graduate uses four
operation & non-programmable scientific calculators in the contexts
of calculation and problem solving.
