Activity 6: Taskstream Task
Now that you have completed Module 4 you are ready to work on Task 1 (102.6.2-05) of the IEA4. Go to www.Taskstream.com to get started.
Before you begin writing Task 1, be certain to do the following:
- Read the instructions for the task and view the grading rubric in Taskstream. By viewing the rubric ahead of time, you will know what the graders are looking for.
- Create an outline of how you will approach the task. (The task is asking for a 4 page essay. You will need to include information and ideas that help you fulfill the rubric requirements, but you will want to avoid including unnecessary information.)
- Gather appropriate notes from the readings and any other resources that you plan to use
Before you submit Task 1 for review, check to make sure you have completed the following (for more detail, please view the Taskstream grading rubric):
- Have you listed, defined, and clearly explained areas of social change in the Renaissance? (See the Task Clarifications below).
- Have you listed at least two American institutions that continue to be affected by the events of the Renaissance. (See the Task Clarifications below).
- Have you explained at least four examples of how Renaissance events have shaped American life.(See the Task Clarifications below).
- Have you provided a title page?
- Have you made appropriate and accurate in-text citations that follow the APA style?
- Have you provided a list of references in APA style?
- Does your essay employ a formal writing tone? Is easy to read and follow? Does it use correct grammar?
Additional clarifications for IEA4 Task 1:
- Note that the instructions ask you to tackle three different, but closely related tasks in your essay.
- You are first asked to outline the areas of “social change” introduced by the Renaissance. Based on your study of Module 4, what kind of changes occurred in the general structure of European societies? What changes occurred in European life in general? Here you might expand your definition of social change to include some of the major developments brought about by the Renaissance in science, technology, art, education, religion, philosophy, government, economy, or other areas. Highlight the areas of social change that you think were most significant. Your explanation of social change should reflect your own careful analysis of Module 4.
- You are then asked to explain how at least two American institutions have been influenced or shaped by Renaissance developments. Keep in mind that an institution, in this case, is not necessarily a physical structure or organizational body. Rather, it might be a widespread cultural or social practice, a political or economic system, or a significant form of social relations, among many other things. (Think about, for examples, modern education, commerce, or the relationship of church and state). It is crucial that you clarify the historical connections between the two (or more) modern institutions that you choose and Renaissance developments.
- Finally, you are asked to explain at least four specific examples of connections between modern American institutions and the social changes brought about by the Renaissance. Depending upon the areas of social change and the modern institutions that you have chosen to emphasize, you might look at specific historical events, or organizations, movements, inventions, pieces of art, books, etc.
- Overall, the goal is to write a paper held together by your own well-founded, logical ideas about the relationship of the Renaissance to modernity. In doing so, it is important that you follow the guidelines of the rubric available in Taskstream and that you carefully proofread your paper. Make sure your writing clearly reflects the ideas that you mean to convey.
