Activity 1: Introduction

Understanding Types of Economic Systems
These materials will help you to understand the variety of historical forms of social and economic organization which have existed over time and within contemporary society.  In terms of their historical beginnings, these range from Ancient “Barter” economies and Medieval systems based on Custom and Tradition, as in Feudal Europe, to the Capitalist, Socialist and Communist systems existing today.

Understanding the Historical Importance of Transportation Networks and Facilities
Transportation is among the greatest components of cost for any producer.  Historically, it has shaped the development of both communities and nations. In completing this module, you will be introduced to historically important forms of transportation, including why and how these have had such a profound impact on economic activity.
