Visit the U.S. History, Government and Geography Learning Community and click on the Module 5 discussion to participate in a Competence Builder that explores the "push" and "pull" factors that influenced immigration in the nineteenth century.
- Competence Builder: Examining immigration in the "long" nineteenth century. What influenes brought immigrants to the United States between 1789 and 1917? Which countries did they come from? What events and conditions served to "push" them out of their home countries? What economic and social conditions served to "pull" them here? How did the citizens of the United States react? How did the opinions about immigration change when the nationalities of immigrants shifted from European to non-European immigrants? Did your ancestors come to this country during the nineteenth century? Do you know? Post below your thoughts on immigration, and feel free to share your own experiences.
Log on to America Past and Present and select the "Module Quizzes" tab. Click on the link for the Module 5 Quizzes. As you complete the module, set aside 30-45 minutes to take each quiz. Do not use your notes or texts when taking the module quizzes. Once you have started a module quiz, you will need to complete it to have your answers graded. The module quizzes provide feedback about correct and incorrect answers to help you focus your study time.
