Activity 1: Introduction

Reading efficiently means being able to survey print material, identifying the main idea and supporting details.  It also means using appropriate strategies for making notes on what is read by categorizing information based on the reader’s purpose and the patterns of organization in relevant print materials.  Reading efficiently does not necessarily mean reading at a faster rate.  Comprehension of academic text can decline when a reader attempts to speed read.
