Activity 3: Reading, Writing, and Composition by Pearson Resources

eText Readings

  • The Reader’s Handbook, Chapters 3, 4, 5, 7, 8.
      • The exercises in the e-texts are optional, but recommended.  If you want to check your work, please visit the “Reader’s Handbook: Q&A” discussion thread to post your answers for review.
  • SF Writer, Chapter 8.
  • Writing: A Guide for College and Beyond, Chapter 2.

To access MyReadingLab, follow these steps:
  1. Log into Pearson’s Reading, Writing and Composition website using the information you received when you enrolled in the resource (the login page displays the title “Course Compass”).
  2. The first page you encounter after logging in contains important announcements in the center panel. Please read these announcements.
  3. The menu on the right-hand side of the screen gives you access to the different areas of the Pearson Reading, Writing and Composition resource. Click on the link for MyReadingLab.
  4. A link and icon will appear for My ReadingLab. Click on it and you will be taken to the homepage for My Reading Lab. From here you can track your activity in the resource and view your completed activities.
  5. When you access MyReadingLab for the first time, you will be asked to choose between two options: “Join Instructor’s Course” and “Self Study.” Make sure your select the “Join Instructor’s Course” option and NOT the “self-study” option. The access codes for MyReadingLab are based on the first letter of your last name. The codes can be found in your Course Compass enrollment letter and at the bottom of the page at this link: http://ocw.wgu.edu/liberal-arts/foundations-of-language-and-communications-after/a23.html.
  6. To access the readings for Module 3, Activity 3, click on the tab called “Study Plan.” On this page you will see a list of linked readings and activities. Find the titles listed in your current module, such as “Active Reading Strategies—New Orleans, Louisiana,” and click through the links. Complete the readings and activities.
