Activity 1: Introduction

Have you ever wondered how the writings of philosophers from centuries ago influence modern ethical thought? Module 5 focuses on the contemporary resonance of Utilitarian philosophy and the influence of Thomas Hobbes's "social contract" theory on modern ethics. The student will relate these theories to current moral debates.
