The focus of the Bacteria module is to investigate the positive and negative impact of bacteria on humans.  You will also learn more about different types of bacteria, how they cause disease, and how they spread in humans.

Use the learning resources, labs, and websites to research the following topics.  Record your notes and questions in your notebook.

  • Causative agents for bacterial infections
  • Gram-positive bacterial diseases
  • Gram-negative bacterial diseases
  • Outbreak of bacteria
  • Hosts
  • Reservoirs
  • Disease classification
  • Nosocomial infections
  • Mode of transmission
  • Vectors
  • Portal
  • E. coli
  • Cholera
  • Anthrax
  • Differential staining

Access Prior Knowledge

Bacteria

  • Be sure that you have a section on your concept map for bacteria.
  • Add links with all you know about bacteria.  Include bacteria that are beneficial and those that are harmful.
  • Also put in as many kinds of bacteria that you know.

Gram Staining 

  • You will new begin a more in-depth study of gram positive and gram negative bacteria. If you have not already done so, add what you know about these two groups to your concept map.
  • How do scientists identify these two groups?
