Activity 4: Review Questions and Competence Builder 

Answer the following questions using information gained through the readings and CourseCompass activities.  Enter answers and thoughts on the topics in your notebook.

  • How does the integumentary system (surface membrane barriers) protect against pathogens?
  • What role does red bone marrow play in protecting the body from pathogens?
  • Explain the specialized role of granulocytes (neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils) and agranulocytes (lymphocytes, monocytes) in protecting the body.
  • Explain in detail the three lines of defense of the immune system.
  • What is the role of B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes in the immune response?
  • How does the antibody-mediated response differ from the cell-mediated response?
  • What is the relationship between bones and muscles?
  • Describe the different types of joints found in the body.
